Q: Step by step Basic Makeup Application  (Anyone can do this.  The eyes in this section are particularly easy to do as there is NO contouring or shading)

 

A: Preparation:  Before applying make-up, moisturize your skin, according to it’s needs, before applying your make-up. 

 

Be sure to hydrate the eye area, especially underneath with the vitashield intensive eye cream or the cellular perfecting complex.  It will help the concealer go on more smoothly. 

 

Also, if you plan to be outdoors, be sure to wear sunscreen. 

 

 

 

Step 1.  Foundation:

 

Foundation will even out your skintone and protect your skin with spf.  Using your foundation brush, fingers or sponge, apply foundation first to the nose and mouth area and then blend outward.

 

 Step 2.  Concealer:

 

Using your concealer brush, apply the concealer to the inside corner of the eye, under the eye (only where you see darkness) and under the lashline where you may be a little red or pink.  Then, use your ring finger to pat into the skin, blending and evening out the color.

 

Step 3:  Powder:Using your powder brush, apply your loose or pressed powder onto the skin to set the foundation and concealer.  This will help your color application last longer and wear better.  (If your skin tends to be dry, use a mineral powder and/or dust only in the t-zone - forehead, nose and chin)

 

If you're feeling washed out, use your bronzer to give your skin a healthy glow.  Sweep color on forehead, cheeks, nose and chin for the look of a bit of sun. 

 

 

 

Step 4:  Blush:

 

Using your blush brush, apply blush to the apple of the cheek and then blend up toward the middle of the ear and hairline.  (It helps to smile) Then blend downwards to soften color.  For a pop of color to brighten the face, apply a brighter color blush just to the apple.

 

 

 

Step 5:  Lip Color:  Line lips with pencil and shade in with that color to create a stain on the lip, allowing the lipstick/gloss to wear longer. 

 

Apply lip color using a lip brush or directly from tube. 

 

To finish, re-line lips with the lip pencil for natural looking definition and to prevent lipstick from feathering. 

 

Step 6:  EyeBrows:

 

Define your brows using the Eye Brow Brush with an eye shadow that matches your haircolor.  Begin at the inner corner of the brow and follow the natural shape using light, feathery strokes.

 

Using a pencil, apply with light,short, feathery strokes for a natural appearance.

 

To tame unruly brows, use the clear brow gel.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 7:  Eye Shadows:

 

A basic application uses 2 to 3 shadows:  The lightest shade highlights the inside corner of the eye and brow bone.  Using the larger shadow brush, sweep the lightest color shadow over the entire eye from the lashline to the brow bone.

 

The medium shade is applied to the lid and into the crease.  Apply the medium color shadow on the eyelid, up to the crease using the smaller shadow brush

 

And, the darkest eyeshadow color is used to line the eye (unless you are using an eye pencil).

 

 

 

Optional:  If additional shading/contouring is desired, blend the darker color into the crease.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 8:  Eye Liner:

 

Line the upper lashline with the eye pencil, or

 

Line the upper lash line with the darkest eye shadow color using the eyeliner brush.  You may apply the shadow dry from a smokey look or using a dampened brush, apply wet for a more defined look.  Be sure to keep the line close the base of the lashes.  (If you line the lower lashline, be sure the top and bottom liner meet at the outer corner of the eye.)

 

A final dusting of powder on the eyes, once your eyeshadow is in place will give longer lasting results.

 

Step 9:  Mascara:

 

Apply mascara from the base of the lashes to the tip. 

 

 

 

It helps to look down your nose as you are doing this.  If you choose to curl your lashes with a lash curler, be sure to do so before applying mascara.

A:  Basic Steps to Applying Eye Shadow with Contouring and Shading:
Applying shadow takes 3 quick steps.  Remember, use a maximum of 3 colors at once:  light, medium and dark shades that blend well.
Step 1:  Establish the outer corner first.  Apply medium shade in a ">" shape and blend toward center of lid.  (applying an eyebase or foundation to the lid first will keep your eye makeup fresher, longer)
Step 2:  Add lighter shade to inner corner and highlight brow bone, then blend with medium shade.
Step 3:  Apply darker shade at lash line on outside corner and blend into a ">" and into crease.  Blend.  (apply shadow at outer corner and work in - not vice versa.  This method deposits the most color near the outer corner and makes eyes look bigger)
 
All women can follow the eye make-up application above, but different types of eyes require slight variations in shadow and liner placement.
Their modifications, based on eye type, are below:
 
Promininent Eyes
Tip:  Select Matte shadows, never iridescent.  Use a medium shade to form a ">" in outer corners, but do not extend the eye.  Blend medium or dark shade on lid and under brow bone.  Line upper lid; smudge.  Line lower lid from outer corner to center, keeping line as close to the roots of lower lashes as possible; smudge.
 
Small Eyes
Tip:  Use a medium shade to form ">" in outer corners.  Blend your lighter shadow over entire lid and past ">" to extend the eye.  Accent the ">" with the darkest shade and blend it into the crease and into the medium shade.  Add lightest shade to inside corner and under the brow.  Line upper lid and outer third of lower lid.  Smudge both lines.  
 
Wide-set Eyes
Tip:  Establish outer corner first and apply medium shade in a ">" shape and blend toward center of lid.  Also blend medium shade on lid up to brow bone and toward center of lid.  Blend darkest shade on lid at inner corner, first up toward brow, then toward middle of lid.  Add lightest shade in center of lid and blend.  Line upper lid.  Line lower lid with taupe on outer half, brown or black on inner half.  
 
Close-set Eyes
Tip:  Use lightest shadow on inner half of lid; darker shade on outer corner; blend outward.  Follow basic steps above.  Then blend darkest shade from middle of lid up to brow bone and out toward outer corners.  When applying liner, only line outer two-thirds of upper lid and outer half of lower lids. 
 
Deep-set Eyes
Tip:  Follow basic directions above.  At step 2, use medium shadow or lighter shadow on lids.  Blend lightest shade in middle of lid and up toward brow.  Line upper lid.  Line outer third of lower lashes and smudge both lines.
 
Hooded Eyes
Tip:  Follow step 1 of basic directions above, using your darkest shadow.  Blend over hood, extending ">" to brow bone.  (Don't close your eye - look straight into the mirror, hold skin above eye taut, and apply shadow).  Blend medium shade on center of lid, up toward brow.  Apply lightest shade on inner corner of lid.  Line top lid and 1/3 of outer lower lid.  Smudge both lines.
 
Downturned Eyes
Tip:  Follow step 1 of basic directions above, but adjust ">" so it's point angles upward.  Blend dark shade on outer third of lid only.  Blend lightest shade on inner corner of lid, up into brow.  Add medium shade only in center of lid at crease and blend up to brow bone.  Blend well.  When lining upper lid stop short of outer corner.  Line outer 3/4's of lower lid.  Smudge lines, especially at outer corners.

A:   Five Easy Steps To Accurate Tweezing
  1. Brush hair in the direction of hair growth.
  2. Isolate the hair you are about to tweeze.
  3. Tweeze in the direction of hair growth.
  4. Pull one hair at a time.
  5. Pull gently and smoothly, making sure not to yank.

 

Shaping Your Brows
The shape of your brow should follow the natural line of your brow bone. The arch should be highest at the outer corner of the pupil. To determine where the brow should begin, place a pencil straight up from the side of the nostril. To determine where it should end, hold the pencil diagonally against the outer corner of the eye pointing up to the brow bone. Brow should extend slightly beyond the eye at which point it should taper slightly down.

 

 

1. The general rule is that your eyebrow should start with a straight vertical line from the eye's inner corner straight up to the brow.

 

2. The arch of the brow should begin as seen in the illustration, at the outside edge of the iris of your eye. The arch helps to lift and open up your eyes.

 

3. The outside corner of your eye is where you want your eyebrow to stop as seen in the illustration. If your eyebrows grow past that point, it tends to make your eyes go down.

(a great tip for after you read these three steps if you are unsure of where to tweeze, is to get a white pencil and apply it to the area you want to tweeze so that you can clearly see the shape you are going to have.)

 

1. To find where your brow begins, hold a pencil very carefully vertically against the side of the nose. This should line up with the beginning of the eye, the eraser nearest the nostril and the point nearest the brow. Tweeze excess hair that extends beyond the pencil over toward the nose. Excess hair towards the nose tends to make your eyes look close together.

 

2. Now keep the eraser end in place and move the top point toward the temple stopping diagonally at the point above the outside edge of the iris of your eye. This is where the arch of your brow should begin. Being sure not to make the brows too thin, tweeze away excess hairs beneath the arch.

 

3. Once again keeping the eraser in place, move the pencil point to the outside corner of the eye. This is where you want your eyebrows to stop. Tweeze hairs that extend beyond the point where the pencil meets the brow. If your eyebrows grow past that point it tends to make your eyes go down. At this stopping point it helps to lift your eyes up. The same is for the arch. The arch helps to lift and open your eyes.

 

Not Sure How Much to Tweeze?
Be sure to step back from your mirror and check your brows periodically. Tweeze a few hairs from one brow and then the other so they remain symmetrical. Remember that it's better to tweeze too little than too much.

 

Do's and Don'ts

  • Do tweeze in the direction of hair growth.
  • Do open your pores with a hot washcloth to make tweezing easier.
  • Do use a make-up concealer to draw your desired brow shape, then tweeze the hairs that fall below the line.
  • Don't use creams or moisturizers that can cause the tweezer to slip.
  • Don't tweeze nose hairs or hairs growing out of moles.

Eyebrows:  Care Tips on Tweezers

  • Clean tweezers after each use.
  • Disinfect tips of tweezers in alcohol.
  • Protect the tips of tweezers with cap and keep in storage box or tube.
  • Spring tension can be increased by gently pulling the two halves of the tweezer apart. Once you have increased the spring tension, you cannot decrease it.
  • Never drop tweezers. Dropping will dull the tip and throw your tweezers out of alignment.

 

 

Q: How to Apply False Lashes (Strips and Individual)

1. After removing lash from tray, hold it at both ends and flex a few times.


 
 
 
 
 
2. Bring lash to eyelid and drape along lid (as close to the edge of your natural eyelash as possible). Then, press in place. If lash is too long, remove it from eyelid and trim with scissors along the outer edge.


 
 
 
3. Apply a thin coat of lash adhesive along the edge of the strip lash. (Tip: To avoid putting too much adhesive on lash, apply a drop of adhesive to the tip of a toothpick. Then, use the edge of the strip lash.)


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
4. Wait several seconds to allow the glue to become "tacky", then apply lash to eyelid (as close to the edge of your natural eyelashes as possible).


Note: White adhesive will become clear once it dries.
 
 
 
 
 
 
How To Apply Individual Fake Eyelashes

 

Applying fake lashes is best left to your makeup artist, but with a little patience and practice, you too can master this art. So don't try it five minutes before leaving to a big party. Andrea lashes are great and they are available inexpensively at the drugstore.

 

Keep a piece of paper handy to hold the lashes, and a magnifying mirror, which makes the job a lot easier.
Using a tweezer, dip the base end of the lashes into the glue, then place the lashes as close to the baseline of your own as you can, filling in wherever you want the greatest impact (generally, the mid to outer lashes look fabulous in false lashes). Press gently, but firmly with something blunt. Hold the lash in place for about 5 seconds until the glue has a chance to hold.

 

Let the glue dry, and then apply a dark eyeliner to camouflage the line of the fake lashes and then apply your mascara. The mascara will help blend your own lashes with the fake ones, and make your eyes look fuller and larger.

 

To remove, gently pull them off with tweezers.

Pick a lipstick and lip liner in matching shades—choose lighter colors, since darker tones can make lips appear smaller.  Use your lip pencil to define lips.  Go to the outermost edge of lips but no further (ie. do not go outside the natural lip line).  Fill in entire area with lip liner.  This will "hold" lipstick longer.  Apply your lipstick over lip liner.

 

 

 

Pick darker shades of lip liner and lipstick to make lips appear smaller.  Using your liner, trace inside the natural lip line, and fill in with your lipstick.  Using a matte shade of lipcolor will also make lips appear smaller.

Instead of plumping up thin lips, try accentuating your mouth's wonderful width!  Use a liner that perfectly matches your lipstick and line the extreme edges of lips, extending out to corners.  Fill in with lipstick color, and then top with gloss on middle of lips only.

 

 

 

Give your lips a strong line using a neutral colored pencil that matches your lip color; then, fill in with a sheer gloss blended gently to the edges by a few strokes of the lip brush. The result is naturally shimmery and moist-looking lip.

How to Apply Strip Lashes

1. After removing lash from tray, hold it at both ends and flex a few times.


 
 
 
 
 
2. Bring lash to eyelid and drape along lid (as close to the edge of your natural eyelash as possible). Then, press in place. If lash is too long, remove it from eyelid and trim with scissors along the outer edge.


 
 
 
3. Apply a thin coat of lash adhesive along the edge of the strip lash. (Tip: To avoid putting too much adhesive on lash, apply a drop of adhesive to the tip of a toothpick. Then, use the edge of the strip lash.)


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
4. Wait several seconds to allow the glue to become "tacky", then apply lash to eyelid (as close to the edge of your natural eyelashes as possible).

How To Apply Individual Fake Eyelashes

 

Applying fake lashes is best left to your makeup artist, but with a little patience and practice, you too can master this art. So don't try it five minutes before leaving to a big party. Andrea lashes are great and they are available inexpensively at the drugstore.

 

Keep a piece of paper handy to hold the lashes, and a magnifying mirror, which makes the job a lot easier.
Using a tweezer, dip the base end of the lashes into the glue, then place the lashes as close to the baseline of your own as you can, filling in wherever you want the greatest impact (generally, the mid to outer lashes look fabulous in false lashes). Press gently, but firmly with something blunt. Hold the lash in place for about 5 seconds until the glue has a chance to hold.

 

Let the glue dry, and then apply a dark eyeliner to camouflage the line of the fake lashes and then apply your mascara. The mascara will help blend your own lashes with the fake ones, and make your eyes look fuller and larger.

 

To remove, gently pull them off with tweezers.

Pick a lipstick and lip liner in matching shades—choose lighter colors, since darker tones can make lips appear smaller.  Use your lip pencil to define lips.  Go to the outermost edge of lips but no further (ie. do not go outside the natural lip line).  Fill in entire area with lip liner.  This will "hold" lipstick longer.  Apply your lipstick over lip liner.

 

 

 

Pick darker shades of lip liner and lipstick to make lips appear smaller.  Using your liner, trace inside the natural lip line, and fill in with your lipstick.  Using a matte shade of lipcolor will also make lips appear smaller.

Instead of plumping up thin lips, try accentuating your mouth's wonderful width!  Use a liner that perfectly matches your lipstick and line the extreme edges of lips, extending out to corners.  Fill in with lipstick color, and then top with gloss on middle of lips only.

 

 

 

Give your lips a strong line using a neutral colored pencil that matches your lip color; then, fill in with a sheer gloss blended gently to the edges by a few strokes of the lip brush. The result is naturally shimmery and moist-looking lip.
